Red Onion – Food for Your Hair and Scalp

I remember asking the lady who introduced me to the world of onion juice, "Can I use onion juice on my hair daily?" To be honest, I was desperate to do whatever I could to grow them back after losing chunks of it a while back.

You are probably wondering how an onion – a common kitchen staple – can be used in hair and can in fact, be beneficial.

Onion juice works magically when it comes to hair growth. It boosts the rate at which your hair grows. If you are looking for a sure-shot method to improve your hair growth, onion juice can be your best buddy. Onions have been used for hundreds of years for both hair growth and graying. There are some nutrients and phytochemicals in onions that help provide the boost for the scalp and hair roots. The catalase in onions helps fight off graying, and for hair growth, the onion supplies sulfur.

Here is how to use onion juice for boosting hair growth.

You’ll need:
- 2 medium-size onions
- Lemon (to get rid of smell + helps to make hair shiny)
- Grater/ Blender/ Juicer
- Cheesecloth or strainer

Step by step directions:
Step 1: Wash the onion thoroughly and peel off the outer layers.
Step 2: Chop the onion in half and grate them (use the finest side to grate the onion). Or you also can toss them in a blender and strain them using a cheesecloth.
Step 3: Place the pulp in a cheesecloth and squeeze to get as much juice as possible.
Step 4: Add the juice of one whole lemon into the onion juice to get rid of smell.
Step 5: Massage the juice into your hair, concentrating on the roots and the scalp.
Step 6: Keep it on for 30-45 minutes and wash with your regular shampoo.
